Carvedilol has many uses. It is used to treat high blood pressure, chest pain (angina) and heart failure. Carvedilol is also used after a heart attack, to improve the chance of survival if your heart is not pumping well. It belongs to a group of medicines called beta-blockers. Carvedilol is also used in severe liver disease, to lower the high blood pressure in the main vein that takes blood to the liver and to reduce the risk of bleeding in the upper stomach or food pipe (oesophagus).
