How to access the tool

The tool is designed to help rangatahi explore what's important to them in life through connecting with their values, and developing a greater sense of purpose and identity. Information is presented in a visually appealing way drawing on nature and mystical journey themes.

It starts with a map ‘The Island of Purpose,’ where the user can select from the following 4 areas to enter:

  • Mountain of Careers.
  • Forest of Relationships.
  • River of Routines
  • Hobbyton.

Once the user selects an area to explore, their journey begins with being asked questions related to what's important to them, focussing on 1 particular aspect. Users receive a personalised response which connects them to their values, how and why they're helpful in their life, as well as considering what the user may be vulnerable to, and how to achieve balance. The app is quick and easy to use, each area of the map can be explored as many times as the user likes, and there's also the option to receive personalised feedback by email.

Comments: Developed by Clearhead, Finding Purpose is a free digital tool developed for rangatahi. It's designed to help young people connect with what is important to them in life, and encourage behaviours aligned with these values.
It is original and visually appealing, with engaging language that takes the user on a journey of self discovery, exploring the following areas; career, relationships, routines and hobbies.
Adding to its appeal for young people, it's quick and easy to use, and has the unique offering of providing personalised responses which the user can also opt to receive by email. Clearhead reports feedback to be clinically validated, and that it allows users to do some of the work that can occur in therapy, exploring and connecting with values, without the attached cost. However, depending on the user's needs, it may not be a substitute for therapy, and it is recommended users engage with health professionals if further support is required.
Safety concerns: None.
New Zealand relevance: Yes.
