The Whakaora Matihiko project has been created, led and driven by Māori and their whānau across the motu with lived experience of mental distress and recovery.

It combines Te Ao Māori world views, the pūrākau of Tāne ascending to the highest heaven to retrieve the three kete of knowledge for humanity and is supported by the renowned whakataukī: “Whāia te iti kahurangi ki te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei — seek the treasure you value most dearly; if you bow your head, let it be to a lofty mountain.”

A digital resource, Ngā pou mo te hauora, has been created by whānau with lived experience. It includes support options such as mental health and wellbeing apps, contact numbers, support tools and resources for whānau and individuals.
