Caregiving can have many rewards but can also be challenging and stressful at times. The role of a carer is often hidden in families/whānau and communities partly because many people consider it to be something that you just do. Support is usually focused on the person needing care, but as more people become carers, it's important that you take good care of yourself and get support. There is much evidence that the high demands of caregiving often lead caregivers to experience stress that affects their physical, mental and social health. Learn more about carer wellbeing

There are a few carer support apps which are designed to help people who provide care for others (mainly family caregivers), to manage their responsibilities, reduce stress, and access resources. These apps can assist carers looking after older adults, individuals with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or mental health conditions.

Before choosing an app, think about how it will benefit you and what you want it to be able to do.

  • An app will only be helpful if you use it, so it needs to be something you like using and find easy to use.
  • If you find the app difficult to use, or you don't like the imagery or look of it, or the language it uses, you may want to find another one that suits you better.
