What does the app do?

The app is designed as an eBook to guide, educate and help young people through puberty by helping them to understand the changes happening to their body and the feelings that occur during puberty. The app has detailed (but appropriate) information about sex hormones, periods, erections and ejaculation, among other topics. It also offers insight into how to take care of your body, in an easy to read way.

The app is aimed at young people but may be helpful to parents or caregivers who want to find simple ways to explain or discuss puberty changes with children.

Comments: Suitable for children about to start or going through puberty, or for parents or caregivers who may want a simple way to explain or discuss puberty changes with their children. It is nicely presented, appropriately detailed information in bite-sized chunks with some good cartoon illustrations. The app helps to support positive self-esteem and highlights normal differences between young people. The app is very gender binary without mention or consideration of diversity in gender or sexual orientation.
Safety concerns: The app is designed as an eBook without any interactive component or personal data entry. However, I am uncertain why the app needs so many various permissions, such as permissions to grant access to media/files/photos on the device, and I wonder if this could be a concern. Also I cannot find any information about the app developer to confirm their background or credibility.

Privacy policy states: "The Application may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile devices unique device ID, the IP address of your mobile device, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browsers you use, and information about the way you use the application and share this information with third parties."
New Zealand relevance: Suitable to a New Zealand audience with only a few words in US English but a preferred resource would be the New Zealand-based website Understand your body(external link)(external link) (Family Planning, NZ).

App developer: If you are the developer and would like to provide updated information about this app, please email the app library manager at hello@healthify.nz
