Psoriasis Monitor app
Psoriasis Monitor app
- An app for people with psoriasis who wish to monitor their skin condition.
The Psoriasis Monitor app allows you to record your symptoms including rash, joint pain, how you're feeling and whether your symptoms are affecting your ability to function and undertake normal activities of daily life.
- You can track your symptoms related to rash (eg, redness, pain, itch), affected joints (eg, pain, stiffness), related symptoms (eg, fatigue, fever, chills), their impact on your ability to function (eg, dressing, walking, reach grip), mood and stress. These can also be put into a graph and printed.
- The app allows you to upload photos of the affected areas to share with your healthcare provider.
- You can record your treatments, include your doctor's information and appointments. (I tried to enter my GP’s data and it wouldn’t let me so I think this may only be useful if you live in the US.)
- The app automatically records weather conditions according to your phone’s location, including temperature, humidity and pressure.
- The app also has a section where you can communicate with others who are registered on the app (the app community).
- The 'Psoriasis news' section appears to be more up to date than the articles. The most recent “news article” was dated March 29, 2024. The news articles are relevant to people with psoriasis.

Comments: This is the most comprehensive app I have seen for recording and monitoring psoriasis symptoms. It's very easy to use and has a tutorial you can follow. The option to take or upload photos of affected areas allows very easy tracking of subtle changes in psoriasis over time, and the photos are saved in a format that makes it easy to review. You can add as little or as much data as you want on any given day, and there is the option to add or edit data for previous days using the calendar. I found it very quick and easy to record information each day.
The graphs and reports can be very easily exported to a PDF format to share with your GP and/or specialist. The wide range of symptoms recorded makes it easy for your healthcare provider to review progress of your symptoms over time, and all the information can be easily compared to medicines and treatments used. The more information you record in this app, the more useful the reports are likely to be.
The app has an “Insights” tab, which claims to be able to provide insights about your symptom patterns and possible triggers (eg, correlating symptoms to stress, mood, medication, weather), however it was not able to evaluate any insights during the period in which I trialled this app. This information might be generated if you use this app over a longer period, however I would advise reviewing any “insights” with your healthcare provider.

Comments: I actually really enjoyed using this app. I think people with psoriasis would find it very helpful. It has a tutorial which is excellent although I wondered with the examples of drug treatments if New Zealanders may be a bit confused as it gives examples of phenothiazines, sulphonamides, triamcinolone cream and UV light as examples. But of course these are just examples for the tutorial, the patient using the app would add their treatments onto the “Record your treatments” bar which is not prepopulated.
Safety concerns: None
New Zealand relevance: The section where you record your symptoms and rash is relevant to those living in New Zealand with psoriasis however the section where you record your doctor or provider’s details is only relevant to those living in the US.
