Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is diagnosed when you have regular and ongoing thoughts and urges that are unwanted and cause you distress.
About 1 in 100 people develop OCD. It can affect anyone of any age and usually starts in childhood. It's diagnosed when you have recurrent and persistent thoughts, urges or impulses that are intrusive, unwanted and cause you distress. These thoughts and images are called obsessions. There are a few apps to help you if you have OCD. They can help you:
- learn more about OCD and different treatment strategies through videos, articles, and frequently asked questions (FAQs)
- keep track of your obsessive thoughts by journaling and recording your triggers to help you identify patterns over time
- keep logs of your mood changes and progress over time, which can be helpful for therapy sessions
- use mindfulness and relaxation tools such as guided meditations or breathing exercises to help manage anxiety.
Before choosing an app, think about how it will benefit you and what you want it to be able to do.
- An app will only be helpful if you use it, so it needs to be something you like using and find easy to use.
- If you find the app difficult to use, or you don't like the imagery or look of it, or the language it uses, you may want to find another one that suits you better.
- Check how your data is collected, stored and used in the app, including whether it’s shared with or sold to third parties.
