What does the app do?

This online programme provides easy-to-understand information about hypoglycaemia, the causes, signs and symptoms and how to prevent and treat them.

Hypos Xplained has 2 language options – English and te reo Māori. Using comic-style, colourful graphics and interactive videos, you follow the story of Maree who is taking insulin and how she manages the hypos that sometimes occur.

The videos and conversations make it more interesting to follow the story.

There is an option to mute the sound.

 You can click on links that show pop-up information explaining complex terms, medical conditions and symptoms to help improve your understanding.

 There are 2 language options – English and te reo Māori.

 It has had input from New Zealand health professionals.

Difficult to read the text on a mobile device, but it can be magnified.

Comments: Hypos Xplained helps users to understand type 2 diabetes and how to manage hypoglycaemia by going through patient stories in cartoon-style in several languages. I really enjoyed reading the patient stories in this app, and I think users will relate to them as well. Clinical terms are described clearly and there are helpful tips for patients and whānau to help them better manage type 2 diabetes and hypoglycaemia. 
Safety concerns: None.
New Zealand relevance: Very relevant to New Zealand, including a version in te reo Māori.
