No problem – you don’t need to be. You just need a camera or phone and a willingness to be real, we’re not after airbrushed perfection.

Creative ideas for photos and videos

  • Try different angles, up high looking down or low to the ground looking up.
  • Think about perspective: step back to include the environment, or zoom in on details like hands, faces or textures.
  • Capture movement or sound to bring your story to life; laughter, footsteps, music, conversation.
  • Consider what you like about images or clips that catch your eye on social media. How can you make yours reflect you?

Extra tips for videos

  • Keep it short and simple; 15–60 seconds is perfect.
  • Hold your camera steady or use a tripod to avoid shaky footage.
  • Use natural light whenever possible, film near a window or outside.
  • Make sure voices are clear and background noise is minimal.
  • Add a short intro or ending if you like, a wave, smile or line about what connection means to you.
  • Landscape (horizontal) is the ideal format.
  • Don’t worry about editing, authenticity matters more than perfection.

File specs reminder:

  • Photos: JPG, 1–12 MB
  • Videos: MP4/MOV/AVI, up to 200 MB, ≤ 60 seconds, 1080 p

Whānau

Who are the people around you and how are you connected to them?  Connection can be shown in gestures, routines, or shared spaces. Think about how you interact with others in daily life.

Hauora

What does health and wellbeing mean to you? Maybe it’s a walk around your community, a laugh with friends, a visit to your healthcare provider or time in nature. You could capture moments that show care, connection or support in action. Show your unique journey toward wellbeing in a single image or clip.

Turangawaewae

Where is your place to stand? It might be somewhere you feel at home, calm or inspired. Capture what makes this place special and how it connects you to people and the world around you.

By submitting your entry, you’re helping Healthify celebrate real stories of connection across Aotearoa.
