✔ Easy to use interface. |
✘ Understanding the neural mechanisms of tinnitus generation and perception aid in its reduction. The app has good information about the range of potential tinnitus triggers, and some available treatments, but not about the underlying neural and perceptual mechanisms that lead to tinnitus causing distress and suffering in some people, and not in others. |
Clinical review
Reviewer: Duncan Hann B.Sc., M.Aud., MNZAS, Senior Clinical Audiologist
Date of review: March 2023
Platform: Apple
Version: 5.2.6 (726)
Comments: Good app for general information about Tinnitus. Because tinnitus is a heterogenous condition the app should be used in conjunction with input from an experienced Audiologist to taylor its use to the individual. Has a range of suitable tinnitus sound therapy stimuli and other strategies to help manage tinnitus. Interface is easy to use.
Safety concerns: Tinnitus is a heterogenous condition with many various triggers that contribute to it’s severity, without guidance from an experienced and qualified professional (which is recommended in the app) misuse of a tinnitus app may exacerbate tinnitus severity.
New Zealand relevance: Yes
