  • The General Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) is one of the tools used to screen for anxiety or to measure its severity.
  • This is not intended to provide a diagnosis – only trained health professionals should do this.

  • Each question response category of ‘not at all’, ‘several days’, ‘more than half the days’ and ‘nearly every day’ is assigned a score of 0, 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
  • The total score is calculated by adding together the individual scores for the 7 questions.
  • The final scores of 5, 10 and 15 are the cut-off points for mild, moderate and severe anxiety, respectively.
