How to get the app

The Babble NZ Neonatal Family app provides you with information about what to expect if your baby is admitted to a neonatal unit, NICU or special care unit. It contains information on routine checks and tests, feeding, equipment, common diseases and medication. It also has information about what you can expect when your baby is born prematurely (before the due date), advice for dads and what's needed when your baby goes home. There is an electronic journal where you can record your journey through the neonatal unit and you can also read stories of other parents' experience and journeys in the neonatal unit.

Comment: This app provides a great free space for parents of babies in the Neonatal Unit to be able to document your own journey as well as being able to use it to further your understanding and knowledge of what's happening for your baby. The stories from other parents and the ability to read about medications, procedures and common conditions in your own time can provide a source of comfort for parents who are new to this often stressful environment. This app is specific for a few hospitals in Aotearoa New Zealand, but it could still provide useful information and tools for parents with babies in other hospitals, although some information may be different, eg, facilities and timing of nursing change over.
Safety concerns: None
New Zealand relevance: Yes.
