Sobriety Counter – Stop Drinking (EasyQuit)
Sobriety Counter – Stop Drinking (EasyQuit)
- An app to support people to stop drinking alcohol and to stay sober.
The Sobriety Counter - Stop Drinking (EasyQuit) app is focused mainly on helping you to stop drinking and then stay sober. You start by inputting details of how much you drink and how often, the financial costs associated with this and your quit date.
You can then view your progress and benefits of your sobriety within different menus, including a tracker for time without drinking, money saved, real-time health benefits, drinks passed and medals for goals achieved.

PROS | CONS |
---|---|
✔ Clear menus to help you see at a glance the benefits of maintaining your sobriety. ✔ Good list of possible alcohol harms provided. |
✘ A set-up menu would be helpful when first opened to allow you to input information on your drinking habits, spending and goals. ✘ "Helpful tips” are simplistic and not necessarily realistic. ✘ Numerous embedded links to and ads for other sites are inconvenient when using this app. ✘ The link to the Facebook support community is not functional. |

Comments: This app is mainly useful for users who have issues with their drinking and are determined to stop drinking, or have already stopped drinking, and want to stay sober. The app has a 'helpful tips' menu with advice on reducing the impact of stressors and triggers associated with alcohol use and cessation. The mini game within the menu 'Beat an urge' can help to distract users from alcohol consumption.
This app doesn't have psychological support or advice for people who are undecided on drinking cessation, and is therefore less useful to users who are in early stages of contemplating drinking cessation or reduction. The “Helpful tips” are simplistic and not necessarily realistic.
Overall the app is not user-friendly and necessarily relevant and has lots of ads. The numerous ads and links gives a poor user experience.
Safety concerns: None.
New Zealand relevance: The app is relevant in principle but is not user friendly. The app defaults to the Euro currency when installed; however, it can be changed to dollars, although this isn't easy to find as it is in the last menu (Settings > Quitting Data). It would be better if the app had an introduction to quick set when the user first opens it.
