How to get the app

The Pilipala app (free version) is designed for people who have a thyroid disorder (eg: underactive or overactive thyroid, or thyroid cancer). This app includes functions which enables the user to set personal health goals, improve and track adherence to medicines and supplements with the reminder function, and also keep a record of blood test results, symptoms, dietary intake, mood, and metrics (weight, blood pressure, pulse). 

This app also contains links to further educational or blogs about thyroid conditions and general wellbeing.

The Pilipala app connects and integrates with Apple Health, which tracks daily activities (standing hours, movement, and exercise).

PROS CONS 

Able to generate a list of prescribed medicines and supplements, including name, form, strength, and frequency.

The medication list is not exhaustive, but users can manually input data.

Able to track adherence to medicines and set reminders.

Able to input data on symptoms and wellbeing.

Able to enter other health data such as metrics (blood pressure, pulse, body temperature) and track the trend.

Straightforward and easy to navigate.

 

✘ Free version of the app has limitations. Users need to upgrade to Pro (paid) version to enter activities, mood, emotions and quality of life.

✘ Some of the educational content links require a login/password for access (eg: article from American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, article from British Thyroid Foundation).

✘ Articles are over 4 years old; some information may be out of date.

Comments: Overall, another user-friendly app which enables users to track their medicines adherence and general wellbeing. It requires an Apple ID login and linking to Apple Health, but the free version has limited functions.
It is targeted at people with thyroid conditions, and provides access to educational material; however this material may be outdated and/or requires a separate login.
Safety concerns: Educational content and blogs are over 4 years old; some information may be out of date. 
Otherwise, no safety concerns as the main function of this app are to help the user maintain medicines adherence, enter symptoms, and keep track of their health from data they enter in.

New Zealand relevance: Yes
Concerns: Yes, this app is relevant to the NZ context, however users should seek medical advice in addition to the features or educational content found within this app.
