What does the app do?

Physitrack and PhysiApp are companion apps:

  • Physitrack is the clinician portal and is available on web and Apple only
  • PhysiApp is the patient portal and is available on web Android and Apple.

Physitrack enables clinicians to prescribe exercises for their patients and to monitor their progress remotely. Clinicians can select and combine exercises, pre-made templates, educational content and outcome measurements into an exercise prescription programme for sending digitally to their patients or generating as a PDF.

Through the PhysiApp portal, patients can access the exercises prescribed to them by their healthcare provider. They can follow along with the exercises in their app, which has an integrated timer, and give feedback to the clinician for each individual exercise. The videos are well narrated with detailed descriptions and videos of how to perform them correctly.

PROS CONS

✔ The clinician can select and combine exercises, premade templates, educational content and outcome measurements into an exercise prescription programme for sending digitally or generating as a PDF.

✔ There are more than 5500 exercises for the clinician to choose from, which include clear videos and explanations and cover a range of physical therapy topics such as musculoskeletal, respiratory, neurology, cardiovascular, pregnancy and more. The exercises include strengthening, stretching, breathing, self-mobilisation, self-trigger point therapy and more.

✔ Highly granular searching with a wide range of filters.

✔ The clinician can also create their own exercises with either an image or video, and customise the existing exercises by editing the title, exercise instructions, number of sets and reps, and “favourite” exercises.

✔ The user can follow along with the exercises in their app, which has an integrated timer, and give feedback to the clinician for each individual exercise.

✔ Reminders for exercise completion.

✔ More than 200 template exercise programmes for the clinician to choose from that include a variety of premade rehab programmes such as for Achilles tendon pain, ACL rehab, breathing, etc.

✔ The clinician can also make their own templates using exercises from the exercise library. They can track patient adherence, pain levels, and outcome measures (eg, Orebro score). The clinician can also create their own outcome measures.

✔ More than 70 educational materials including videos and PDFs for the clinician to choose from for sending to the patient. The clinician can also add their own educational videos and PDFs.

✔ Certification course for clinicians for training to use the app effectively.

✔ Video calling (base included plan is very basic) and messaging feature.

✔ Integrates with a selection of practice management software suites.

✔ Sharing feature to share certain data with clinical colleagues.

✔ Customisable notification feature for pain alerts, adherence, messages and end of programme.

✔ The app updates in almost real time with program modifications by the clinician.

✘ The patient portal PhysiApp is available on Android but has multiple reports of bugginess, including in our own testing.

✘ No apparent out-of-the-box templates that follow proven rehab protocols from clinical trials. If there are, they are not referenced as such. This could lead to the patient getting a non-evidence-based exercise programme template when an evidence-based one exists.

✘ The search and filter features are inconsistent, often missing exercises due to inconsistent tagging and a limited synonym database.

✘ The number of templates sounds impressive at first glance, but it is missing some key important conditions such as gluteal tendinopathy.

✘ The educational content is limited, with some major gaps in topic coverage, and you can only assign one item (eg, you can’t send them both the whiplash video and PDF, only one).

✘ The content is not referenced to published articles when relevant.

✘ The clinician can’t create exercises or educational content using YouTube or Vimeo videos.
