MindEar app
MindEar app
- An app for people with tinnitus that includes a variety of management strategies such as sound therapy, CBT and mindfulness.
- It also includes podcasts providing information about tinnitus, sleep, CBT, positive thinking and meditations.
The MindEar app for tinnitus relief combines a series of tinnitus management techniques to provide customised tinnitus care. The app uses an artificial intelligence-powered platform to access tinnitus management strategies including sound therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), meditation and mindfulness. When accessing the app, you're asked a few questions about your condition and in this way you can create your own personalised journey or plan. You can add a goal such as improved sleep, better understand your condition, etc. The personalised journey comprises an 8-week step-by-step programme that guides you through appropriate treatment options. If you don't want to go on a personalised journey, you can also explore the app on your own, in the self-care section.

PROS | CONS |
---|---|
✔ Clearly states that you should also talk to your doctor or audiologist. ✔ Gives details for local emergency mental health care for those who are really struggling. ✔ Questions at the start tailor the app to your needs and goals. ✔ States research-proven methods used to assist with tinnitus. ✔ Built in dark mode to reduce disruptions and eye strain. ✔ There's a website which gives helpful information (eg, protecting your hearing, relief from tinnitus, information about dizziness, etc). ✔ User-friendly, with good aesthetics and has been well designed. ✔ The app has many podcasts (usually between 3 to 22 minutes each) providing information about tinnitus, sleep, CBT, positive thinking, meditations, etc. ✔ The app allows you to chat with the MindEar team. ✔ Reviews on Apple App Store are 4.5 out of 5, although it's early days with low numbers of reviews at the moment. |
✘ Reviews on Google Play are 3.8 out of 5, with comments focussing on bugs in the programme (developers also comment these have been fixed). Some say it was expensive, some didn't find the approach helpful, some commented on number of notifications; the developers do seem to respond well to all review comments. ✘ When reviewing the app there appears to still be some issues with the function (some bugs) for example not being able to move back out of the hearing screening section. ✘ While the annual membership is good value for how comprehensive the app is, some users left reviews saying they found it too expensive. |
