How to get the app |
Glooko is an app for people living with diabetes who want to consolidate their data from devices such as continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), insulin pumps, glucose meters and fitness trackers, into one central hub. It's especially useful for people using Dexcom or Libre. Integration with NZ-specific services is limited, but the app is effective for monitoring and proactive diabetes self-management. You can view charts and reports that integrate glucose readings with food logs, insulin dosing, and physical activity. It brings all your diabetes data together, helping you and your healthcare team make sense of your health.

PROS | CONS |
---|---|
✔ Connects with a variety of diabetes devices and apps, eg, Dexcom, Freestyle Libre 2, Accu-Check, insulin pumps and smart pens, Apple Health, Google Fit, Fitbit and MyFitness Pal. ✔ Bold easy to read graphics. ✔ Easy to add food with voice mode or custom log, insulin doses and notes such as exercise, any variation to routine, medicines, wellness. ✔ Using the app encourages behavioural insights through data and better management of diabetes. |
✘ New Zealand version doesn't yet have a barcode scanner for food and it doesn't have some New Zealand branded products. If these are added it will be an excellent tool to help people to track their food intake with ease. ✘ If using the app with Libre devices the information needs to be downloaded via csv which is a barrier to some users. ✘ The quick access addition of medicines focusses on insulin. Adding oral medicines is not as obvious and is a few clicks in. |

Comments: The Glooko app is a handy, friendly tool that brings your diabetes information together in one place. It helps you keep track of your condition, make better choices, and stay connected with your healthcare team.
To share your data with your healthcare team, they would need to use a special version of Glooko that’s available through a paid website. This service is usually set up and managed by the healthcare provider, not the patient.
Note, while Glooko is free to the patient, healthcare providers can have a paid subscription to a clinic level dashboard and analytics, and device integration to the electronic health record. The cost varies depending on the size of the practice, number of authorised users and other aspects. Quotes can be obtained directly from the company.
Safety concerns: None.
New Zealand relevance: Yes
