How to get the app |
The BelongAI Dave – Cancer Mentor app is a mobile app that uses conversational artificial intelligence (AI) to act as your digital “cancer coach.” It helps you interpret medical documents, simplify complex clinical terms and answers cancer-related questions. You can also learn from a community feature where you see what others are asking “Dave”.
Key features in the free version include:
- Ask “Dave” questions on demand and receive plain-language answers to cancer-related topics.
- Upload your medical reports or scans and receive simplified explanations.
- If you choose the premium version, you also gain access to an AI clinical trial assistant (“Tara”) that can suggest potential clinical trial matches and keep you updated on new opportunities. You can also set reminders and notifications with the premium version.

Version: 2.7.10
Comments: The BelongAI Dave – Cancer Mentor app offers on-demand explanations and organisational support, with premium features that include reminders and trial-matching tools. While AI can be helpful for support and understanding, it has limitations in accuracy, context, and personalisation, so you need to prompt the app clearly and carefully to get tailored answers. The app should be seen as a complementary support tool rather than a replacement for professional medical advice, and not all treatments, investigations, or trials it mentions will be available in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Safety concerns: The main safety concerns are the accuracy of AI-generated answers and the risk that users might rely on the app instead of seeking advice directly from their medical team.
New Zealand relevance: Yes, but some investigations and treatments suggested by “Dave” may not be available in New Zealand or may require private funding. Some trials discussed may not be accessible in New Zealand or may require overseas access.
