The Health Navigator Charitable Trust (HNCT) works to ensure everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand has easy access to high quality, culturally acceptable health information, tools and resources. It also makes life easier for health professionals working with patients and clients in the pursuit of shared decision making and self-determination.

HNCT focuses on health literacy, self-management support and promoting self-management skills. It founded, and continues to run, the popular Healthify He Puna Waiora website (formerly known as Health Navigator NZ), and co-creates a range of other high-quality tools and resources.

An important part of HNCT's mahi is working with others to make any door the right door for people wanting to improve their, or their whānau's, health: at the click of a button, scan of a code or swipe of a screen, it should be possible to quickly access what is needed to lead healthier lives.

In 2005, a group of New Zealand health professionals, managers and members of the public established a self-management network to act as a forum for collaboration about self-management support for people with long-term conditions.

The network, led by Dr Janine Bycroft, soon identified the need for a coordinated source of reliable health information and self-help resources to curb the duplication and fragmentation of online health information.

In July 2008, the Health Navigator Charitable Trust was registered with the Charities Commission in New Zealand to build and run the first Health Navigator NZ website, which went live in December 2008.

As well as the Healthify He Puna Waiora website, the trust offers a range of other products to New Zealanders and the health professionals who care for them. You can read more about them under Our mahi.

Our Board of Trustees provides guidance and strategic advice.
