PROS | CONS |
---|---|
✔ Very simple interface with straightforward language easy for teens/pre-teens to understand. ✔ Easy interactive graphics that explain the female anatomy and period cycle. ✔ You can track your mood and other symptoms such as breast tenderness, which help you develop an idea of when to expect your cycle. ✔ It has a predicted preparation time (2 days) for your next period which helps young girls to be period ready. ✔ You can customise notifications such as the preparation days and change colours for the period marker days on the app. ✔ Good section on questions with answers. ✔ Good advice on how to handle some of the issues around periods such as cramps or how feelings change throughout the cycle. ✔ Validated source for medical information which is doctor-reviewed – it refers mainly to TeensHealth a Canadian doctor-reviewed site. |
✘ You can enter information without a password and this will not keep your information private e.g, diary entries, if you share the device with someone else. ✘ If you forget your password, all data entries are lost and you have to redownload the app. ✘ The app is intended for the young but doesn't provide practical tips/videos or diagrams on how to use period products or what to do when things go wrong such as stains on clothes/underwear which will happen in this age group. |

Comments: This is a good introductory app for young pre-teens and teens who are starting to learn and experience their periods. It has a simple interface with simple language which is easy to understand. It's a period tracker and will also track your emotions and other symptoms such as breast tenderness or cramps. It provides very useful advice on how to handle issues associated with your periods such as cramps or changes in your emotions. However, for those learning about or starting their periods it doesn't explain how to use the period products. Links to videos or more pictures would provide practical tips.
Safety concerns: Unless you get to the settings where you can create a password, if you share your device the information can be seen by another user. On opening the app you are taken straight away to the calendar and not prompted to create a password. It may be a good idea to have the password section on the landing page.
New Zealand relevance: Yes
Concerns: None
